International acclaim: Denmark's best hotel restaurant is located on Amager
Since 2020, the World Culinary Awards have celebrated the world's best gastronomic destinations. The national winners for 2023 have just been announced. Rooftop restaurant SUKAIBA Copenhagen, located atop the AC Hotel Bella Sky, has been awarded the coveted title of Denmark's best hotel restaurant, surpassing the previous three-year winner, Michelin-starred Marchal at luxury hotel d'Angleterre.
Many people might associate the area around Bella Center Copenhagen more with major conferences and book fairs than with fine dining on an international level. However, one of the world's leading industry awards now affirms that top-tier gastronomy should also be part of the equation when discussing dining options in the city district of Ørestad.
Today, it is announced that SUKAIBA Copenhagen has won the title of Denmark's best hotel restaurant, a title that the 1-star Michelin restaurant, Marchal, at the Hotel d'Angleterre, has held each year since 2020.
Grand Relaunch Last Year
Following a quieter existence as a cocktail bar during the turmoil of the pandemic, SUKAIBA Copenhagen was relaunched in October 2022 as a pan-Asian fine dining experience, spearheaded by restaurant manager Jacob Brink Lauridsen (formerly Alchemist, Noma, and Molskroen, among others).
In stylish surroundings on the 23rd floor of the AC Bella Sky Hotel, SUKAIBA Copenhagen evokes the ambiance of far off destinations such New York, Dubai, or Bangkok. And that's the whole point: atop the Danish capital, the dream has been to create a foodie destination of international caliber that, in addition to panoramic views, offers "a sexy dining experience," in the words of the restaurant manager.
Topping Off Another Recent Win
"Naturally, we are extremely proud of being recognized as Denmark's best hotel restaurant. But we are equally proud to contribute to the high standard that Copenhagen and Denmark, in general, continues to maintain as an international destination for gastronomy. Being a part of that community feels like a victory in itself," says Jacob Brink Lauridsen.
In addition to the brand-new World Culinary Award, SUKAIBA Copenhagen recently won the award for 'Caviar Dish of the Year’ in the renowned Danish Dining Guide. In this category, they competed against the 2-star Michelin restaurant, Alchemist. SUKAIBA Copenhagen's winning dish, consisting of beef sashimi with Oscietra caviar and oyster sauce, is still available on the menu.
