Marie Jacquot is a conductor of exceptional caliber, and her musical prowess has made her highly sought after by orchestras and opera houses worldwide. Starting this season, she will take on the role of principal conductor at the Royal Danish Theatre, where she has already made a strong impression and received high praise for her performances of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin, Mozart's La clemenza di Tito and Gounod's Faust.

"Marie Jacquot is one of the fastest rising stars in the European musical scene, and it is a fantastic testament to the quality of the Royal Danish Orchestra that she has chosen to dedicate herself as our principal conductor. She has already shown that she will be a tremendous enrichment for our audience, and I am very excited to collaborate with her as a director on her first opera production as our principal conductor: the Danish premiere of Manfred Trojahn's intense opera Orest," says Managing Director of the Royal Danish Theatre Kasper Holten.

In the 2024/2025 season, Marie Jacquot will conduct, in addition to Trojahn's Orest, Puccini's opera trilogy Il trittico, as well as two of the Royal Danish Orchestra's symphony concerts during the season. Her inaugural concert in the Opera House on August 23 will open the Royal Danish Orchestra's concert season with romantic and exuberant music. The program includes Richard Strauss's picturesque tone poem Till Eulenspiegel, Korngold's romantic Sinfonietta and Mozart's youthful work, Violin Concerto No. 4, featuring violin soloist Noah Bendix-Balgley.

"The Royal Danish Orchestra has the perfect balance of high musical and human skills. The orchestra's musicians are passionate, disciplined, and unafraid to innovate. It is a great joy and an immense honour for me to be able to work with this amazing orchestra. As principal conductor I am incredibly excited to work more closely with the musicians of The Royal Danish Orchestra and to support them in doing their best for the music, for the audience, and for Danish culture," says principal conductor Marie Jacquot.

About Marie Jacquot
Marie Jacquot was born in 1990 in Paris and raised in Chartres. As a child, she much preferred playing tennis over the piano, which her parents insisted she learn. Her immense tennis talent took her all the way to the Junior French Open, but she was also captivated by playing the trombone, and at the age of 15, she decided to fully commit to music. After studying trombone in Paris, Marie Jacquot studied conducting in Vienna and Weimar, and since completing her conducting studies in 2014, she has had a meteoric rise in the classical music world.

She has already conducted many of Europe's best orchestras and in several of the most famous opera houses. In 2024, she stepped in as a replacement for conductor Christian Thielemann during his tour concerts with the prestigious Dresden Staatskapelle. Since the 2023/2024 season, Marie Jacquot has been the principal guest conductor for the Wiener Symphoniker, and starting in the 2026/2027 season, she will become the principal conductor of the WDR Sinfonieorchester.

Marie Jacquot is principal conductor for the Royal Danish Theatre from 2024 to 2029.
