Marie Jacquot appointed Chief Conductor for The Royal Danish Theatre

31 year old Marie Jacquot is one of the most talented young international conductors of her generation, not least due to her musical curiosity, broad repertoire, tireless work ethic, and irresistible enthusiasm, on and off the podium.
That was also what excited Artistic Director of The Royal Danish Opera John Fulljames when she conducted in The Royal Opera in the fall of 2021.
“Marie had the most extraordinary impact during the production of Faust earlier this season, not just leading outstanding musical performances but also inspiring chorus, soloists and orchestra in equal measure. It was immediately clear that there is a very strong chemistry to build upon and that The Royal Danish Theatre and its audiences would benefit hugely from a relationship with this rapidly rising star in the years to come. I am thrilled that this artist will build a strong relationship with The Royal Danish Theatre in the years to come," says Artistic Director of The Royal Danish Opera, John Fulljames.
Marie Jacquot states:
“It is my honor and great pleasure to be part of the future creative team at the Royal Danish Theatre; a team devoted to entertaining, informing, and inspiring their audiences. From the very beginning of our collaboration, I felt this strong bond of sharing, with music being in the center.
I wish to base our relationships on trust, appreciation, and the contribution of individual strengths. This foundation will establish The Royal Danish Theatre as both a politically committed, cosmopolitan house and a cultural, educational area for future generations to reflect with a critical eye on our world today.
We want to create a home where everyone feels a sense of belonging and respect for who they are and what they think. This space is not meant to be elitist, but an eclectic place for creation and intercultural exchanges.
We, artists, management, and audiences alike, will strive for artistic and human excellence together, so that The Royal Danish Theatre will be recognized for this excellence both in Scandinavia and internationally.”
The Managing Director of The Royal Danish Theatre, Kasper Holten, is excited that the theatre again attracts one of the brightest talents:
“It is not a coincidence that Marie Jacquot is already a name in demand at important orchestras and opera houses throughout Europe. In the light of that it is remarkable that she has chosen to commit herself so strongly to us and Copenhagen. With a significant director like Elisabeth Linton as the future Artistic Director of The Royal Danish Opera and a notable conductor like Marie Jacquot we have an excellent starting point to create art at the highest level in the years to come.”
Elisabeth Linton, who is Artistic Director of The Royal Danish Opera from august 1st 2022 states:
“I am really looking forward to work together with Marie Jacquot. We have already had interesting conversations about music and performing arts and we share common ideas about what we want to offer our audience and how we want to develop the artistic ensembles in The Royal Danish Opera.”
The Italian conductor Paolo Carignani is Principal Guest Conductor at The Royal Danish Orchestra.
Alexander Vedernikov, who tragically died with covid-19 in Moscow in October 2020, were the chief conductor of The Royal Danish Orchestra.
