Westinghouse Announces Executive Management Changes

Westinghouse Electric Company today announced a series of executive appointments designed to further align the organization with its operational transformation and provide enhanced customer delivery. Mark Marano has been appointed chief operating officer, with David Howell succeeding Marano as president, Americas Region. Luc Van Hulle will serve as interim president of the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Region. Additionally, David Durham has been named senior vice president of New Projects Business (NPB). Each change is effective as of March 15.

In his new role as chief operating officer, Marano will have global responsibility for the company’s core businesses of Nuclear Fuel & Components Manufacturing (NF&CM); Operating Plants Business (OPB); Decontamination, Decommissioning, Remediation & Waste Management (DDR&WM); and the company’s Engineering Center of Excellence (ECOE). In his new role, Marano will drive increased alignment with customers as the product lines and engineering teams are united under a single operational focus.

He previously held the role of president – Americas and EMEA Regions for Westinghouse, leading Westinghouse’s commercial interface in the two regions. Prior to his tenure at Westinghouse, Marano held executive leadership roles at both at AREVA NP in Charlotte, N.C., and GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. Marano also held a series of management positions at American Electric Power (AEP) and their power generation fleet of 82 plants in 11 states, inclusive of nuclear, coal, gas and hydroelectricity. Prior to his roles at AEP, Marano spent 10 years in successive levels of senior management positions at nuclear plants sites, including Florida Power and Light, Carolina Power and Light, Public Services Electric and Gas and Florida Power Corporation.

Operational synergies between the product lines and Regions will be further enhanced as Westinghouse continues to capture the market through diligent customer development, service and management. As president, Americas Region, Howell will lead Americas Region customer relationship management while leveraging his OPB product line background.

Howell most recently served as senior vice president, Operating Plants Business, a role he assumed in April 2015. In his 34 years in the nuclear industry, he has held executive responsibility for I&C and outage oversight as well as engineering related products. Prior to those roles, he held a series of increasingly responsible roles within engineering and field operations management at Westinghouse.

Van Hulle was most recently vice president of EMEA marketing and commercial integration, a role he assumed in 2012. He began his 35 year Westinghouse career in engineering and plant construction before moving to management roles in field operations and customer-facing roles.

The newly created NPB will deliver on the promise of the AP1000® plant projects and the services provided by the WECTEC product line. Durham’s portfolio will include his previous WECTEC responsibilities as well as all aspects of Westinghouse’s New Plant organization, including current AP1000 projects and business development for India and the U.K.

Durham joined Westinghouse in 2015 as vice president, Strategic Projects, with responsibility for identifying and implementing business growth opportunities. Before coming to Westinghouse, he was senior vice president and chief commercial officer at GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy. Previously, Durham was vice president of Fluor Corporation, leading commercial activities for the company’s global nuclear power and government businesses. Durham also served in the administration of President George H.W. Bush, overseeing the creation and operations of the defense nuclear facilities cleanup program for Energy Secretary James Watkins, as well as federal facilities enforcement for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Bill Reilly.
