Project Management Institute Further Supports Global Advocacy through Month of Service

Project Management Institute (PMI), the world's leading association for the project management profession, is thrilled to kick off the 2020 Global Month of Service, running until 5 December 2020. Aligned with PMI’s newly launched Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion program, Global Month of Service encourages staff, members, and volunteers to participate in community service activities important and meaningful to them in order to make a positive impact.

“At the heart of the Project Management Institute is our volunteers—we call them our secret sauce,” said Otema Yirenkyi, Vice President, Global Engagement, Sub-Saharan Africa and Head of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion. “They reached out and asked, ‘what can we do?’ We have created spaces within PMI through our Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion program and are expanding that through this Global Month of Service. It’s furthering our dedication to global advocacy and supporting important issues and causes that impact communities.”

One of the ways PMI is suggesting community members get involved is through Amnesty International’s Write for Rights ® campaign. This global letter-writing campaign supports individuals whose basic human rights are being threatened. Letters will be sent to governments, leaders, and decision makers to advocate for change on behalf of those impacted in this year’s campaign . PMI has a goal pledging 10,000 letters in support of the Write for Rights campaign.

Community members looking for other ways to participate can consider any type of other act of service. Donate blood, volunteer with or donate to a food bank, or even see what volunteer opportunities the United Nations (UN) has listed online. PMI is no stranger to giving back. During last year ’s Global Celebration of Service, PMI honored its 50th anniversary by focusing on the professionals—our members, credential holders, volunteers, and all those who consider project management their profession. We partnered with the UN and mobilized our community to pledge 50,000 hours to projects contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
