Holder of European record added to the CPH Half elite field

Athletics enthusiast will have definitely come across the name of Sifan Hassan in the past five years.

The Ethiopean-born Dutchman holds numerous European and World championships medals and has a staggering nine Diamond League victories on her resumé over distances ranging from 1,500 to 5,000 metres. Furthermore, she holds the European 5,000 metres record of 14.22,34 minutes set earlier this year.

Now, Hassan is ready to increase her distance and will be lining up for start at the Copenhagen Half Marathon.

“Sifan Hassan is an amazing name to add to the line-up. She ranks among the greatest athletes i Europe and we are honored that she has chosen the CPH Half to test herself over the half marathon distance”, says Henrik Paulsen, competition director of the CPH Half.

Sifan Hassan is still new on the half-marathon distance, so we should not expect her to be competing for the win this time around. According to her trainer, Alberto Salazar, she expects to be able to run the distance in around 69 minutes, seeing as she has not been training specifically for a half-marathon. However, Salazar sees a future for her on the longer distances.

“I definitely see Sifan as very competitive on the 5,000 and 10,000 metres at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, and after that we shall have to wait and see”, Salazar states in a recent interview on Youtube.

The Copenhagen Half Marathon featuring, among others, Sifan Hassan at the starting line, will take place on September 16th, starting at 11:15 AM.
