Denmark and China agree to renew Joint Work Programme to accelerate green transition

The two foreign ministers discussed Danish-Chinese relations and exchanged views on foreign policy, human rights, and global issues such as climate change.
Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod stressed the value of the Danish-Chinese Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the two foreign ministers affirmed their commitment to continuing cooperation within areas of mutual interest. They committed to finalising and reaching an agreement on a “Green China-Denmark Joint Work Programme” in 2022, with a particular emphasis on addressing climate change and promoting cooperation on areas such as green transition, environment, water, agriculture, food safety, health, and maritime affairs.
Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod expressed the Danish government’s views on issues such as EU-China relations, multilateral affairs, and regional affairs, including in areas like the Indo-Pacific, Afghanistan, Myanmar, the Sahel and Ethiopia. He also expressed his serious concern about the human rights situation in China.
During his visit, Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod also held a virtual meeting with Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China Wang Wentao to promote commercial cooperation between China and Denmark and to underline the importance of ensuring a level playing field for foreign companies in China.
In addition, Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod met virtually with Minister of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China Huang Runqiu to exchange views on global climate change and to promote cooperation on climate, energy, and environment. The Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Mr. Dan Jørgensen and Minister for Environment Ms. Lea Wermelin also participated virtually in this meeting from Copenhagen, Denmark.
As a part of the visit, five important Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Denmark and China were agreed and signed, promoting cooperation in areas such as climate, environment, water, food and intellectual property rights.
