TransEnterix, Inc. (NYSE MKT: TRXC), a medical device company that is pioneering the use of robotics to improve minimally invasive surgery, today announced that the first radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer utilizing its Senhance surgical robot was performed by gynecologic surgeon Dr. Salvatore Gueli Alletti, a member of Professor Giovanni Scambia’s team, at the Policlinico A. Gemelli Foundation in Rome, Italy.

A radical hysterectomy is performed for early stage cervical cancer and involves the dissection and removal of all the uterus and parametria, ovaries, fallopian tubes and the upper portion of the vagina. The operation is a major cancer operation which includes an extensive pelvic lymph node dissection.
