Over 1.36 milliarder US dollars går til små og mellemstore virksomheder globalt ved Expo 2020 Dubai

Expo 2020 Dubai – den første Expo verdensudstilling der skal afholdes i MEASA-regionen: Mellemøsten, Afrika og Sydasien – har meddelt, at 20% af Expo's samlede direkte og inddirekte udgifter, som udgør en værdi i kontrakter på mere end 1.36 milliarder US dollars, vil blive tildelt både lokale og internationale små og mellemstore virksomheder (SMVer).

Denne offentliggørelse er den seneste i en række driftsmæssige og traditionsskabende initiativer med fokus på SMV, der inden for Expo 2020 Dubai er opstået ud af en overbevisning om den vigtige betydning, som både lokale og internationale SMVer skal gives i målet om at skabe en enestående Expo verdensudstilling.

Tidligere på måneden mødtes G20 ledere for at diskutere behovet for at hjælpe SMVer på globalt plan til økonomisk vækst. SMVer spiller især en vigtig rolle på de nye markeder, idet de bidrager med op til 45% på beskæftigelsesområdet og 33% for BNP.

Inden for Gulfstaternes samarbejdsråd (GCC) er SMVer et redskab til økonomisk modernisering og diversificering, idet hver regional regering har iværksat programmer med det formål at støtte SMVer. I De Forenede Arabiske Emirater repræsenterer SMVer næsten 94% af det samlede antal operationelle virksomheder, hvor 400.000 SMVer bidrager med 60% til nationens BNP - et tal, der i 2021 forventes at stige til 70%.

En styrkelse af SMV er en strategisk prioritet for regeringen i De Forenede Arabiske Emirater, der sigter mod at skifte til en vidensbaseret økonomi med offentlige myndigheder, der arbejder tæt sammen for at styrke SMV-sektoren ved at tilbyde supplerende støttestrukturer og incitamenter.

Denne vækststrategi vil blive en del af Expo 2020 Dubai's eftermæle fra denne mega-begivenhed for De Forenede Arabiske Emirater og hele området. For eksempel har organisationens e-Sourcing Portal 6.200 registrerede leverandører fra hele verden - mere end 2.400 af disse er SMVer - og ud af de godt 800 kontrakter, der er indgået på nuværende tidspunkt, er 320 gået til SMVer.
