NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Apr 4, 2016) - Mizuho Securities Group celebrates a third straight year atop the All-Japan Research Team , Institutional Investor's exclusive annual ranking of the nation's leading sell-side equity analysts.

This victory also marks an important milestone in the 23-year history of the survey: It is the first time that a firm other than Nomura has had the winner's circle all to itself for more than one year. (Mizuho and Nomura shared the top spot in 2014.)

Both firms capture the same number of total team positions as last year: 28 for Mizuho and 23 for Nomura, which repeats in second place. SMBC Nikko Securities holds steady at No. 3 despite picking up three spots, for a total of 22; while Daiwa Securities Group stands firm in fourth place even though its total declines by one, to 17.

UBS adds one position, bringing its total to ten -- that's enough to propel the Swiss bank from seventh place to fifth and earn the title of this year's highest-ranking non-domestic firm.

The All-Japan Research Team Hall of Fame, which honors individuals who have earned at least ten sector-topping appearances, welcomes a new member this year: construction analyst Toshiya Mizutani of Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities Co.

A total of 135 analysts from 13 firms make this year's team. Survey results reflect the opinions of more than 1,100 individuals at 357 buy-side institutions that collectively manage an estimated $1.2 trillion in Japanese equities.
