Tenneco to Supply New Ford Focus and Ford C-MAX with High Performance Suspension Technology

Tenneco Inc. (NYSE: TEN) announced today that Ford has chosen Tenneco’s high-performance damper technology for its new Ford Focus and Ford C-MAX, both of which are built on Ford’s C-Car global platform. According to Ford, these latest launches introduce a number of advanced new technologies focused on enhanced comfort, safety and ride quality.

Tenneco’s Multi-Tuned Valve (MTV) is a cost-effective twin tube valve system that provides a wide range of tuning options. MTV offers improved shock absorber performance and durability compared to conventional valves, and enables the optimum balance between body control and driver comfort.

“We are proud to work with Ford to integrate our innovative MTV technology as a standard suspension feature on the all-new Ford Focus and Ford C-MAX models,” said Sandro Paparelli, vice president and general manager, Europe Ride Performance. “Our engineers deliver tailored suspension solutions that help enhance both vehicle dynamics and driver comfort, making Tenneco a partner of choice for customers who wish to differentiate a vehicle's suspension performance and create a signature ride.”

Tenneco’s MTV technology complements Ford’s Enhanced Transitional Stability system which debuts on the new Ford Focus.

About Tenneco MTV Technology:

The extremely flexible Tenneco Multi-Tuned Valve technology can be applied to a wide range of vehicles – from compact to premium class. MTV technology accommodates up to four different valve architectures, each of which provides a unique character targeted to specific vehicle ride or handling characteristics. These architectures are built by modifying the order and size of the spring discs assembled into the valve. They provide a wide range of tuning options and each architecture can be tuned over the entire damping curve to offer improved shock absorber performance and durability. All architectures can be made using the standard spring steel components available in the valve package.
