Analogic Corporation
PEABODY, Mass., 2014-11-25 22:00 CET (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Analogic Corporation (Nasdaq:ALOG), enabling the world's medical imaging and aviation security technology, today announced that it will demonstrate its new bk3000™ ultrasound system at the 100th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), Nov. 30 – Dec. 5. The new system will allow the flagship BK Ultrasound brand, powered by Analogic, to address the fast growing demands of interventional and image guided procedures as a result of superb Ultra High Resolution imaging and Doppler capabilities enabled by TriCore™ architecture.
"By bringing Analogic's world renowned technology to BK Ultrasound, we introduced the most powerful and portable deep imaging ultrasound system designed to address new clinical challenges in interventional and image guidance applications," said Jacques Coumans, Ph.D., Analogic's chief marketing and scientific officer. "The bk3000 is the gateway to future real-time image guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures with technologies we pioneer and deliver to leading institutions around the world."
"The new system's architecture is based on graphic processing units, or GPUs, which are significantly more powerful and efficient compared to conventional CPU-based architectures," Dr. Coumans continued. "The result is an ultrasound platform with an accelerated beam forming and computing pipeline for quick assessments of anatomy and physiology during exams. The bk3000 offers lower cost of ownership and long-term value, while addressing the industry's growing clinical needs, and is the basis of BK Ultrasound's next-generation family of systems targeting existing and future real-time image guidance, as well as general imaging procedures."
TriCore architecture is the combination of breakthrough technologies that enables the bk3000 to deliver a new level of imaging and performance. Specifically, the Ultra High Resolution imaging and Doppler improvements allow for more consistent visualization of subtle tissue contrast differences and excellent border definition, while simultaneously improving the ability to see small structures. There is more information at depth as well as increased frame rates for improved visualization of moving structures.
Featuring advanced transducer technology, the bk3000 is available with a comprehensive family of transducers. The advanced technology will also enable the new platform to offer increased sensitivity and efficiency with improved imaging access across a wide range of body types for guided and diagnostic procedures.
Analogic will also highlight its breakthrough Sonic Window® handheld ultrasound system for ease of visualizing vasculature and needle guidance for applications such as peripheral intravenous access (PIV). Sonic Window is built on Analogic's patented DSIQ technology, utilizing advanced acoustic-silicon packaging to build first-of-its-kind, real-time 2D coronal imaging at clinician-controlled depths. The Sonic Window is designed to improve success with difficult vascular access by helping clinicians to better assess and visually guide insertion of needles and catheters.
"The ultra-compact, pocket-sized, Sonic Window is unlike any portable ultrasound device available on the market today," said Jim Green, Analogic's president and chief executive officer. "Sonic Window is an excellent example of Analogic's ability to bring practical advanced ultrasound technology to healthcare professionals. We are addressing an unmet need to bring better vascular access and care to challenging patients in their practice."
In addition to the bk3000 and the Sonic Window, Analogic will showcase its industry leading Flex Focus™ family of ultrasound systems, the standard for procedure guidance, and the BioJet™ MRI-ultrasound Fusion system during RSNA in Booth #6130. More information may be found at www.bkultrasound.com.
