SimpliVity , a leader in hyperconverged infrastructure for the software-defined data center, today announced that its customer, HISI , a recognized player in the world of hosting and outsourcing of critical applications, was named “Best Private Cloud” at the Best of VMworld Europe 2014 User Awards, which was held in Barcelona. HISI won the award for a project in which it replaced its existing IT environment with SimpliVity’s award-winning hyperconverged infrastructure, OmniCube.
The judges of the fifth annual Best of VMworld Europe awards assessed the entries and selected the winners based on overall innovation, systems performance improvement, cost reduction, ease of management burden, new use in the market and improved efficiencies and business processes. The awards, hosted by Computer Weekly, SearchServerVirtualization.com and LeMag IT, covered virtualization and server consolidation, desktop virtualization, hybrid cloud computing, disaster recovery and private cloud computing.
“When our storage area network (SAN) and blade capacity started running uncomfortably close to its limits, we knew something had to be done,” said Thierry Petit-Perrin, CEO and founder, HISI. “SimpliVity offers a lot of flexibility in its implementation and operation. We were impressed with the drastic improvement in performance since implementing SimpliVity OmniCube. In addition, we saved money compared to conventional architectures for SANs and blades.”
HISI provides best-of-practice IT infrastructure, virtual servers and managed services around the clock, including an automated cloud service to host virtual machines (VMs). To provide secure, reliable and superior services to its existing and new customers, the company looked to overhaul its costly and cumbersome legacy IT environment with a hyperconverged infrastructure solution from SimpliVity. SimpliVity’s external compute offering, centralized management of all virtual machines through OmniCube’s Global Unified Management capabilities and integrated disaster recovery features fit HISI’s high-availability requirements.
In less than a month, HISI had successfully moved all 150 VMs onto the SimpliVity hyperconverged infrastructure, including mission-critical applications such as Oracle, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SharePoint and SAP, and experienced improved performance. SimpliVity’s inline deduplication, compression and optimization of data allowed HISI to benefit from a performance boost of almost 50 percent. Moreover, the deployment of new workloads in HISI’s environment has also improved, now taking less than a day, compared to deployment time of one week with its legacy infrastructure. Today, HISI’s ability to provide outstanding backup, data protection and high-availability services to its clients have improved tremendously, along with an accelerating movement of more mission-critical applications and subscribers onto OmniCube hyperconverged infrastructure.
