IMST
IMST , German expert for wireless solutions will present the newest member iM880A of their radio module family at Innosecure 2013 in Velbert on September, 25th and 26th . The iM880A is a compact, low power, bidirectional radio module for the 868 MHz frequency band using Semtech ’s LoRaTM modulation technology .
LoRaTM provides ultra-long range spread spectrum communication and high interference immunity while minimizing current consumption. The iM880A achieves a maximum sensitivity level of -137 dBm with a maximum output power of +19 dBm resulting in a link budget of 156 dB and achieving range of more than 15 km in a rural environment or 2-5 km in a dense urban environment operating compliant to European regulatory limits. “LoRaTM solves the traditional design compromise between range, interference immunity and energy consumption”, explains Hardy Schmidbauer, Director Wireless Products at Semtech Corporation .
The rollout of LTE next to the traditional 868MHz frequency band commonly used in Europe creates increased interference for security systems, smoke detectors, lighting control, home automation, and smart meter applications. The iM880A provides increased interference immunity compared to conventional radio systems providing up to six orthogonal spreading sequences with three different signal bandwidth options and four error correction schemes. “This flexibility enables the user to configure the perfect balance between range, interference robustness and data rate for multiple wireless applications”, says Heinz Syrzisko, Head of Business Unit Wireless Solutions at IMST GmbH.
The module provides a cost effective and quick solution for integrating LoRaTM technology into existing or new products. To simplify the first steps of integration, IMST provides the Starter Kit SK-iM880A with the corresponding demo and configuration software WiMOD LR Studio . The module and the starter kit significantly speed up development time removing the need for RF expertise and simplifying software development allowing the user to focus on the application development.
IMST offers integration support for the modules, antenna/hardware design, and software customization. They provide a complete service chain for wireless product development, starting from feasibility analysis and system design to all stages of development – demonstration, prototype, initial production, and full production with regulatory certification. The 180 employees have expertise in all wireless technologies and provide advice regardless of the specific technology.
