Wide Impact of novoGI Nitinol Compression Anastomosis at the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons (ASCRS) 2013
Global Registry and Other New Clinical Endeavors Launched

ATLANTA, 2013-05-01 09:38 CEST (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --
novoGI Inc today announced that its nitinol-based compression anastomosis
device was widely presented at the American Society of Colorectal Surgeons
(ASCRS) Annual Meeting on April 28 – May 1 at the Phoenix Convention Center in
Phoenix, Arizona. With more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and 10,000
procedures worldwide for the novoGI™ ColonRing, evidence demonstrates clinical
results for ease of use, healing processes, and successful outcomes in regard
to leak rates.

Data presented at ASCRS 2013 continue to substantiate that the novoGI™
ColonRing is especially effective in lower anterior resection (LAR) procedures
with leak rates ranging from 1.9% to 4%.

Clinical presentations on compression anastomosis at ASCRS 2013 included:

-- Compression Anastomosis Is Associated With a Low Rate of Anastomotic
Leakage: Intermediate Results of WCCA RETROPRESS Study. Poster presentation
by WCCA Faculty members Stephen Cohen, MD, FACS, FASCRS (Atlanta Colon and
Rectal Surgery, PA, Atlanta, GA), Matthew Albert, MD, FACS, FASCRS (Florida
Hospital, Orlando, FL), Jose Dominguez, MD (Cox Medical Center Health, St.
Louis, MO), Domingo Galliano Jr, MD, FACS, FASCRS (Fawcett Memorial
Hospital, Port Charlotte, FL), and Michael Stamos, MD, FACS, FASCRS
(University of California, Irvine, Irvine, CA). Abstract P318.
-- Why Is Nitinol Compression Anastomosis Important? Presentation by Abe
Fingerhut, MD, DSc (hon), FACS, FRCPS (g), FRCS (Ed) (Department of
Surgery, University of Athens, Hippokrateon Hospital, Athens, Greece, WCCA
Training Committee Chair, WCCA Faculty) held Monday, April 29 at the novoGI
     booth.
-- The WCCA Compression Anastomosis Registry: What, Why, and How? Presentation
by Anthony Senagore, MD, MBA, FACS (Keck School of Medicine, University of
Southern California, Los Angeles, CA, WCCA Registry Committee Chair, WCCA
Faculty) held Tuesday, April 30 at the novoGI booth.

On podium at ASCRS 2013, novoGI compression anastomosis technology was noted in
several sessions--including The Surgeon's Toolbox Symposium and Anastomotic
Techniques and Leaks Symposium --as an attractive alternative to surgical
stapling.

"We are especially encouraged by the growing body of solid clinical data as
well as the enthusiasm this week at ASCRS 2013 and at the recent World Congress
of Compression Anastomosis (WCCA) 2nd Annual Meeting held in Phoenix last
Friday," Gavriel D. Meron, president and Chief Executive Officer of novoGI
commented, "Our proprietary nitinol compression anastomosis technology is the
recommended device for LAR procedures. Leading colorectal surgeons are driving
new clinical endeavors to enable better patient care--such as the WCCA global
registry and the planning of the new COMPARE comparative, prospective, and
randomized multicenter trial comparing conventional circular staplers to the
novoGI™ ColonRing compression anastomosis device."
