Omnetics Connector Corporation: Press release
Nano-circular Connectors Meet High Reliability Applications With Water Proof Sealing MINNEAPOLIS, 2012-11-15 18:00 CET (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- As design miniaturization evolves, mobile instruments, military, surveillance, and medical devices are being asked to go smaller and retain very high reliability. Miniature circuits and instruments are often highly portable and must fit into extremely tight spaces that require quick and easy cable connections in very rugged environments. Higher speed digital signals must be accommodated with additional pin count in reduced diameter cables. Omnetics nano-connectors with pin spacing at one-thousands of an inch, reduce size and weight by three times when compared to micro-circular connectors. The new nano-circular connector series is designed with military quality elements and tested to levels that assure high performance over a long life span. A wide range of design formats are available at http://omnetics.com/products/circular/ A photo accompanying this release is available at http://www.globenewswire.com/newsroom/prs/?pkgid=15733 Nano circular-connectors use a one-piece beryllium copper flex pin design, plated with nickel/gold for robust service from -55 to + 125 degrees centigrade. Most wiring and cable designs include 32 AWG Teflon® insulated wire for handling up to 1 ampere. Omnetics' unique polarized-insulator bodies allow both plastic and metal connector configurations. Styles include metal threaded coupling shells, twist-lock shells, shielded breakaway connectors, over-molded plastic bodies that snap lock together and a range of water proof designs. Instrument handles and shells can be designed into a full custom housing over-molded at Omnetics. The basic nano circular connector inserts are also available in panel mount and wire attachment format and often are supplied pre-wired from Omnetics. Newer circuits using nano-circular connectors employ firewire® cable connections with twisted pair signals for low voltage differential signal processing. This allows higher speed digital transmission signals on smaller, flexible cables. Extra ground lines can be fit into smaller cables to support more dedicated lines for return-path signals in portable equipment. Woven over-all shields or shields for each differential pair can be designed into the cable system and tied to the connector shell as needed. Nano-circular connectors and cables include surveillance cameras, breakaway cables, military helmets and a range of medical devices like catheters, optical scopes and surgical tools.
