Urlaubs-Express focuses on Villach and Munich

Cologne, Germany - Germany’s market leader, Train4you, has unveiled its 2027 motorail train programme and opened bookings. In its eleventh year of operation, the Urlaubs-Express service will be significantly expanded on the routes to Villach and Munich. The capital of Carinthia is set to become the new UEX hub, with services running from Hamburg and Düsseldorf. As well as the nearby Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region, Villach – situated in the ‘tri-border area’ – offers excellent opportunities for a relaxed onward journey to Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary or Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Even whilst the Tauern railway line is closed, the UEX service will continue to operate via a diversion through Passau rather than via Salzburg as usual. From the start of July, the UEX service to Villach will then be significantly expanded – with additional trains during the peak season.

The car-carrying train hub in Munich will also be strengthened with the modern terminal in the south of the city, due to come into operation in 2025. The Bavarian capital is increasingly taking centre stage, as Innsbruck cannot be served due to the construction of the new railway station. Munich South is therefore now the only connection for travellers starting or ending their journey in Bavaria, Tyrol and beyond via the Brenner Pass. Alongside Villach and Munich, the classic Hamburg–Lörrach route is also back on the UEX calendar. “Despite the many challenges posed by roadworks, we are once again able to offer an attractive programme with plenty of options for combining journeys, which also meets the wishes of many guests for more frequent services,” says Train4you Managing Director Niko Maedge.

With ticket prices starting at 79 euros for a single seat in a couchette carriage, including seat reservation, and from 179 euros for vehicle transport, the UEX once again stands for price stability. As well as a relaxing overnight journey that avoids traffic jams, the savings on fuel are becoming an increasingly compelling argument in favour of the motorail train, given current trends.
