I’m green™ bio-based Helps Deterra® Win Multiple Industry Awards for Pharmaceutical Packaging
3.9.2026 10:00:00 CEST | Business Wire | Press release
The Deterra® Drug Disposal Pouch, which is made with 50% or more I'm green™ bio-based polymer, has gained Accredo Packaging a number of leading packing industry awards.
Developed by Verde, the patented drug disposal technology is designed to deactivate unused medications, preventing drug diversion and mitigating the risk of pharmaceuticals leaching into groundwater and waterways. The partial use of I’m green™ bio-based polymer derived from renewable sugarcane, reduces the carbon footprint of the packaging material compared to equivalent fossil-based polyethylene, all whilst maintaining the technical performance required for pharmaceutical disposal applications.
Material Innovation and Application
The Deterra® pouch required a material that could meet strict technical specifications without relying entirely on traditional, fossil-based plastics. By utilizing I’m green™ bio‑based polyethylene, the packaging has a reduced carbon footprint whilst maintaining the performance of conventional polyethylene. Backed by the API Group, a family and minority owned company with 40+ years in the packaging industry, Accredo Packaging’s expertise in advanced film design, engineering, and processing enabled the successful incorporation of bio-based materials into a high-performance flexible packaging structure. This achievement demonstrates that incorporating bio-based materials and maintaining functional performance are not competing priorities.
“These awards are a testament to how I’m green™ bio-based portfolio enables our partners to meet the most rigorous technical standards and their sustainability commitments,” said Andres Prince, Key Account Manager at I’m green™ bio-based. “By integrating renewable materials into a product as critical as the Deterra® pouch, we are demonstrating that the transition to a bio-based economy is happening now.” Braskem supplies the I’m green™ bio-based polyethylene resin used in the Deterra® pouch.
Industry Recognition
The Deterra® pouch’s successful application of I’m green™ bio-based materials, has been recognized by the packaging industry for excellence in both technical design and innovation in bio-based material applications:
Award | Organization | Category |
Silver Award | Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) | Packaging Excellence |
Silver Award | Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) | Sustainability |
Award of Distinction | PAC Global | Technical Package Design |
Bio-based materials in practice
The Deterra® pouch illustrates how bio-based polymers can be utilized to reduce product carbon footprints at the very start of polymer production. The use of renewable sources of carbon, instead of fossil-based sources, can still provide versatility and high-performance that can meet the demands of even the most specialized packaging materials. Through advanced engineering and manufacturing, Accredo Packaging enables the successful application of bio-based materials derived from renewable and recyclable sugarcane in high-performance packaging, allowing brands to reduce their product carbon footprint compared to equivalent fossil-based polyethylene, whilst maintaining the stringent performance and safety standards their applications require.

Nippon Electric Glass’s IR Transmitting Glass “FI-02” Adopted for Heimann Sensor Lens Unit, Enabling a 120° × 68° Field of View16.9.2026 03:00:00 CEST | Press release
Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (NEG) (TOKYO: 5214), a global leader in specialty glass headquartered in Otsu, Japan, announced that its IR Transmitting Glass (chalcogenide glass) “FI-02” has been adopted for Heimann Sensor GmbH’s wide-angle lens unit for thermal cameras. The lens unit achieves a 120° × 68° field of view, surpassing the previous product’s maximum of 92° × 59°. The adoption marks a significant milestone for FI-02 and showcases how advanced specialty glass can meet the demanding optical and manufacturing requirements of the expanding infrared sensing market. Thermal cameras detect infrared radiation emitted by people or objects and convert it into thermal images. Infrared sensors can detect the locations of people and temperature distributions. They are expected to be used for people detection and monitoring, where privacy considerations are important, and for air-conditioning control, while their use is expanding in healthcare, equipment monitoring, and security. Study: Heatwaves Increase Cough Urge, Which Salt Aerosols Reduce15.9.2026 15:15:00 CEST | Press release
New Study Indicates Non-Pharmacological Aerosol May Provide Therapeutic Relief for Respiratory Conditions Provoked by the Atmospheric Aridity Inherent to Heatwaves SC Therapeutics, with University North Carolina, Imperial College London, and Boston University, announced publication on Tuesday in Nature Scientific Reports of results from a multi-institutional study indicating that the aridity inherent in heatwaves increases cough hypersensitivity in human airways by collapsing mucus onto cilia in a manner common to chronic respiratory diseases, such as cystic fibrosis, and asthma. The researchers find that alkaline aerosols of magnesium salts reverse mucosal collapse for several hours, and reduce cough hypersensitivity as reflected in placebo-adjusted suppression of daily cough bout rate (59%, p=0.03) and persistence of suppression post treatment for 1 to 3 weeks in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 10 refractory chronic cough patients. “Paris recorded 5,764 excess
