SEPPmail acquires CyberPilot and begins building a leading European platform for email security
13.8.2026 12:56:24 CEST | CyberPilot | Press release
The solutions of the Danish specialist in security awareness training and phishing simulations will complement the SEPPmail Group's existing offering in the field of human risk prevention. This is the second acquisition in the build-out of a sovereign European email security platform strategy

-
Email security extended to the human factor: with CyberPilot, SEPPmail addresses human risk systematically for the first time
-
European and sovereign: providers outside Europe were never under consideration, sovereignty is the guiding principle of the platform's development, from Europe, for Europe
-
A broader product portfolio: phishing simulation and risk awareness training extend the current portfolio of encryption and protection towards end-to-end email security
-
Channel availability: roll-out to distributors and partners in the German-speaking region from late 2026
Neuenhof, Switzerland / Aarhus, Denmark, 10 August 2026. SEPPmail AG has acquired the Danish company CyberPilot ApS, based in Aarhus. With this acquisition, the email security specialist extends its offering beyond technical protection for the first time and addresses the subject of human risk. CyberPilot provides security awareness training and phishing simulation, employs around 50 people and works with more than 1,000 organisations across Europe. Signing and closing have been completed, and the parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
The acquisition is a further building block in a platform strategy: SEPPmail is bringing its existing portfolio together into an end-to-end European platform for email security and will add further disciplines step by step. Origin was a firm selection criterion in the process, and providers outside Europe were not up for discussion.
Four building blocks protect the technology, the fifth protects the people
SEPPmail's solutions protect email communication largely automatically, without requiring users to take action:
-
Signing and encryption to S/MIME and PGP standards confirm that a message is genuine and keep its contents confidential in transit.
-
GINA and managed domain encryption enable encrypted exchange even with partners who have no encryption solution of their own.
-
Large file transfer delivers large files securely, without a detour via uncontrolled storage services.
-
The spam and malware filter in seppmail.cloud ranks among the most capable in the world.
One risk nevertheless remains, and it lies with people. This is precisely where human risk management comes in: awareness training conveys how attacks unfold and which mistakes are typical. Phishing simulations then make it measurable how confidently an organisation responds when it matters, and train employees respond appropriately.
"On the technical side, we have been protecting our customers' email communication reliably for years. The one factor that remains is the human being," says Marcus Zeidler, CEO of SEPPmail AG. "It is no coincidence that we chose a European provider to address this human risk. We are seeing growing unease in the market towards international providers based outside Europe, and that runs across every industry. For many of our customers, data sovereignty has long since become a supply chain requirement. That is exactly what we are building our platform around, in every respect and with every solution."
Effective training at a manageable operational cost
Since its founding, CyberPilot has focused exclusively on the human side of IT security, taking an educational rather than a purely technical approach: the goal is the best possible and measurable learning outcome, not the largest possible feature set.
Alongside the quality of the content, the decisive factor was the operational effort involved. Many solutions in this market segment are demanding to set up and can only be maintained over time with considerable resources. CyberPilot remains straightforward to administer and is therefore also well suited to the requirements of mid-sized organisations. Artificial intelligence is applied deliberately where it takes work off people's hands, without taking control away from the administrator.
"We built CyberPilot for impact from the very beginning, not for feature count," says Rasmus Vinge, CEO and co-founder of CyberPilot. "We use artificial intelligence where it saves effort. Control over the system stays with the administrator. In the age of AI, vast numbers of features and functions can be shipped in very little time, but not all of them are useful. We look closely at which features we implement, how and why. What convinced us about joining the SEPPmail Group was the prospect ahead: a European platform for email security in which our training becomes an important building block, together with two strong partners in SEPPmail and LEA Partners."
Existing contracts continue, and the channel gains more to offer
For existing customers of both companies, nothing changes for the time being: contracts, points of contact and support all remain in place. CyberPilot will continue to operate as an independent unit within the SEPPmail Group, and its current management will join the group's management board.
SEPPmail sells exclusively through the channel. The same will apply to CyberPilot's solutions in the German-speaking region. Ahead of the roll-out, the two companies will jointly adapt localisation, packaging and functionality to the DACH market and establish the sales and support expertise needed to give partners the best possible backing. Availability for distributors and partners is planned for late 2026.
"A fully sovereign European platform for email security does not exist today. That is precisely the space SEPPmail and CyberPilot are now taking," says Kurt Weise, Partner at LEA Partners. "SEPPmail has the customer base, the channel and the technological substance to build a platform on. CyberPilot is an important strategic partnership along that path. "
The ambition: European email security across its full breadth
The next confirmed step is a central administration console through which all components of the platform can be managed together. In the medium term, the combined offering is to be taken into further European markets.
Further steps will follow CyberPilot. Over the coming years, SEPPmail will extend its offering to further disciplines and will consistently choose European technology partners in doing so.
"Our ambition is to cover European email security across its full breadth," Marcus Zeidler concludes. "CyberPilot is the first step along that path, and others will follow. Anyone looking at us over the coming years will see a company that gives its customers more than technology: it gives them reliability on a question that has become strategic for Europe."
