Sustainable business practices are becoming increasingly important for companies – yet for small and medium-sized enterprises in particular, practical implementation often remains a challenge. This is exactly where the German-Danish project GrønBusiness (“Green Business”) comes in.

Funded under the Interreg Deutschland-Danmark programme, GrønBusiness guides businesses in the border region in systematically embedding sustainability into their operations. It focuses on the potential of the circular economy – that is the more efficient use of resources through reuse, recycling and new business models. The project aims to make sustainable approaches tangible and to provide companies with practical tools for implementation.

Practical knowledge for sustainable business
A central element of the project is the digital information portal www.groenbusiness.eu. It showcases successful real-world examples from businesses in a clear and structured way. The platform highlights how resource-efficient processes, sustainable business models, and new forms of cooperation are already being successfully implemented in the region. This creates a growing pool of knowledge, offering guidance and inspiration to companies on both sides of the border.

Cross-border network for innovation
In addition to the platform, GrønBusiness actively promotes exchange between companies, experts and economic stakeholders. Workshops, events and networking formats create space for new partnerships and joint projects. The lead partner of the project is KielRegion GmbH, which coordinates the strategic direction and implementation together with other German and Danish project partners.

Cohesion policy as a driver of transformation
The Interreg programme is a key instrument of the European Union’s cohesion policy, designed to reduce regional disparities and foster joint solutions to shared challenges across borders. Supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), it promotes a greener, smarter, more connected and more social Europe. Projects receive substantial EU funding, while participating organisations provide co-financing, with EU contributions covering up to 80% of total project costs.

Project description

The project “EUconomy – Partnerships4Prosperity” demonstrates how EU Cohesion Policy promotes economic development and social inclusion across Europe. Over a period of 12 months, multimedia content packages will showcase cross-border initiatives funded by the EU from Germany and its neighbouring countries Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, and France. The content covers topics such as economy, innovation, sustainability, vocational education, and digital transformation, and is made available to the media free of charge, helping to highlight the importance of the EU for regional development.

The “EUconomy – Partnerships4Prosperity” project receives funding from the European Commission.
