The Kingdom of Denmark to receive a new British Ambassador

The experienced British diplomat Victoria Elizabeth Billing will take up her post as the United Kingdom’s new Ambassador to Denmark in April 2026.

The British Government today announced that Victoria Elizabeth Billing has been appointed as the United Kingdom’s next Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark. She succeeds Joëlle Jenny, who will be moving to another role within the UK diplomatic service.
Victoria Billing will take up her post in April 2026.
The incoming Ambassador arrives in Copenhagen with extensive experience from postings across Europe, the Middle East, West Africa and Asia. Throughout her career in the UK Foreign Service, she has held a number of key positions, both in London and overseas.
Victoria Billing began her career at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1997. In 2017, she served as Private Secretary to the then Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, and in 1999 she took up her first overseas posting as Political Second Secretary at the British Embassy in Yangon, following a year of intensive Burmese language training.
From 2006 to 2008, she served as Deputy Consul General in Jerusalem, and between 2019 and 2022 she was the United Kingdom’s Ambassador to Senegal, Guinea‑Bissau and Cape Verde, based in Dakar, where she headed the British Embassy and led the local diplomatic mission.
Since 2022, she has served as Director for the European regions of the Mediterranean and Western Balkans at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).
Professional Background of the Incoming Ambassador
- 2022–2025: Director Europe (Mediterranean & Western Balkans), FCDO.
- 2019–2022: UK Ambassador to Senegal, Guinea‑Bissau and Cape Verde, based in Dakar.
- 2017–2019: Deputy Director Institutions and Member States, Department for Exiting the European Union.
- 2017: Private Secretary to the Foreign Secretary, FCO.
- 2015–2017: Deputy Head of Mediterranean Dept, Europe Directorate, FCO.
- 2008–2015: Maternity/parental leave periods followed by special unpaid leave.
- 2008: Change Unit, Department for International Development (DFID).
- 2006–2008: Deputy Consul General in Jerusalem.
- 2002–2005: Head of the European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) Section, later Deputy Head of the Common Foreign and Security Policy Department (CFSPD), Europe Directorate.
- 1999–2002: Political Second Secretary at the British Embassy in Yangon, Myanmar.
- 1998–1999: Full‑time Burmese language training.
- 1997–1998: Bosnia desk officer, FCO.
