On 3 February, the Danish War Museum will host an opening reception for the exhibition “Warrior”. Journalists are welcome to attend upon registration.
Guests can look forward to an intense journey into the warrior’s universe, as four different warriors, through rituals and rigorous training, prepare to go to war and face death—either that of the enemy or their own.
In the exhibition “Warrior”, visitors encounter four distinct warriors: a Roman legionary, a Japanese samurai, a ritual warrior from the Sepik River region of New Guinea, and a contemporary Danish soldier. Although they live in different times and parts of the world, they all share the experience of entering the warrior’s universe after undergoing demanding mental and physical training.
Humans have always gone to war, but the exhibition is particularly relevant in the new world order in which we are currently living.
On 3 February, the Danish War Museum will inaugurate the exhibition with an opening reception from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm, to which members of the press are invited.
There will be a speech by Rane Willerslev, Director of the National Museum of Denmark.
In addition, there will be a talk featuring former Frogman Corps soldier Rune Viborg, Senior Researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies Lars Hedegaard Williams, and Associate Professor of Anthropology at Aarhus University and Head of Development at Moesgaard, Anders Emil Rasmussen, discussing what it means for a human being to become a warrior.
During the event, there will be performances by Japanese kendo warriors and Roman legionaries, and guests will have the opportunity to explore the exhibition.
“Warrior” opens to the public on 4 February and has been developed in collaboration with Moesgaard.
Registration for the opening reception must be completed no later than Monday, 2 February at 12:00 noon by contacting Communications Manager Julie Lorenzen at Julie.Lorenzen@natmus.dk or +45 41 20 60 42.
