World Premiere at MEDICA 2025: UV Medico Launches Revolutionary Instrument Table Light Designed to Reduce SSIs

Share

Aarhus, Denmark – At this year’s MEDICA in Düsseldorf, UV Medico unveils its latest innovation: the Instrument Table Light, a breakthrough Far-UVC solution designed to reduce surgical site infections (SSIs) by targeting one of the most overlooked contamination sources in the operating room; the instrument table.

During surgical procedures, sterile instruments can become contaminated by airborne pathogens and particles [1, 2], increasing the risk of SSIs.

By continuously disinfecting the instrument area using human-safe Far-UVC light (200–230 nm), UV Medico’s new system provides active microbial control throughout the procedure, without harming skin or eyes. The technology eliminates bacteria, viruses, spores, and even antibiotic-resistant pathogens such as MRSA, ensuring that surgical instruments remain sterile from preparation to closure.

“We are proud to introduce a new standard in surgical hygiene,” says Peter Johansen, Founder and CEO of UV Medico. “Our Instrument Table Light addresses a critical blind spot in infection prevention. Combined with our wider portfolio of
Far-UVC solutions, we offer hospitals a clinically proven path to safer environments protecting patients, staff, and sterile fields alike.”

Integrated Solutions for Infection Prevention

The Instrument Table Light is part of UV Medico’s hospital portfolio, comprising more than 15 advanced Far-UVC solutions designed to reduce healthcare associated infections (HAIs) across clinical environments from operating rooms and ICUs to patient wards, cleanrooms, and ambulances.

With over 13,000 installations worldwide, UV Medico’s technologies have demonstrated a reduction of HAIs by up to 56%, supported by hospital field data.
Each system integrates a management control system that ensures compliance with the safety standards, enabling safe, continuous, and effective disinfection in occupied spaces.

Engineering Safety into Every Beam

Unlike conventional germicidal UV-C (254 nm), Far-UVC does not penetrate the outer dead layer of human skin or the tear layer of the eye, making it safe for occupied environments. UV Medico’s patented technology ensures precise wavelength filtering, preventing unwanted emission outside the 200–230 nm range.

The Instrument Table Light is optimized for surgical workflows: compact and battery driven. It provides real-time disinfection between procedures and even during operations, maintaining the sterility of surgical tools and surfaces throughout.
