Bellagroup achieves recognized SBTi approval of its climate targets
Bellagroup, comprising Bella Center Copenhagen, Bella Arena, Copenhagen Marriott Hotel, AC Hotel Bella Sky og Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers, has reached a significant milestone in its sustainability journey: an official approval of the company’s climate targets by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This places Bellagroup among an exclusive group of companies in the hospitality sector that have had their CO2e reduction targets validated according to the strictest scientific standards.

"Having our climate targets verified by SBTi is proof of our commitment to an ambitious and responsible green transition. We are proud to be among the few companies in our sector to achieve this recognition, and we see it as an important driver to accelerate our efforts towards reaching our net-zero goal," says Frida Ulrik-Petersen, Director Sustainability - Head of Responsible Hospitality at Bellagroup.
A globally recognized climate standard
The Science Based Target initiative is an internationally recognized organization that assesses companies’ climate targets against the latest climate science to ensure alignment with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. With this approval, Bellagroup now has confirmation that its reduction targets comply with science-based standards and contribute to a meaningful reduction in CO2e emissions.
A leader in the industry – one of very few
Bellagroup thus joins an exclusive group of companies in the hospitality sector with verified SBTi targets. In Denmark, Bellagroup is only the fourth company in the sector to achieve this validation, and globally, only 106 companies in the industry - including major players such as Marriott and IHG - have had their targets approved by SBTi.
"The hospitality sector faces significant challenges in CO2e reduction, but that doesn’t mean we cannot take responsibility. The fact that we are among the few in the industry to achieve this approval obligates us to lead the way and find new solutions to reduce our climate footprint and inspire the rest of the industry," continues Frida Ulrik-Petersen.
Concrete Goals and Achievements
Bellagroup’s SBTi-validated targets include:
• 2030 goal: 60% absolute CO2e reduction for Scope 1+2 and 46.2% for Scope 3 (baseline 2019).
• Net zero 2050: 90% absolute CO2e reduction across Scope 1, 2, and 3.
Since 2019, Bellagroup has already achieved a total CO2e reduction of 36%, equivalent to 8,923 tons of CO2e. Specifically, Scope 1+2 emissions have been reduced by 54.5%, while Scope 3 emissions have been reduced by 21.5%.
To reach its next milestones, Bellagroup will focus in 2025 on reducing the CO2e footprint from food and beverages, improving waste management through recycling and upcycling, and enhancing data and transparency tools to help customers and partners make more climate conscious choices.
"We are only just beginning, and we know that the road to net zero requires both investments and innovation. But we are determined to be part of the solution, and we hope more in the industry will follow suit," concludes Frida Ulrik-Petersen.
