Copenhagen, October 2024 – On October 29, 2024, Ukraine House in Denmark will host the panel discussion "Harvesting Stability: Ukraine’s Role in Global Security," a pivotal event in the Heart of Earth exhibition series. This event will explore the ecological and economic impacts of Russia’s aggression on Ukraine’s agricultural sector and address Ukraine’s critical role in global food security.

Date: October 29, 2024 | Time: 14:00–18:00
Location: Gammel Dok, Strandgade 27B, Copenhagen

Co-organized with the Embassy of Ukraine in Denmark, the event will bring together key experts, policymakers, and organizations dedicated to supporting Ukraine's recovery and reinforcing its position as a global breadbasket. The panels will focus on the effects of the war, from land contamination and demining efforts to the broader implications for global food supply and international security.

EVENT BACKGROUND
In 2022, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine had a devastating impact not only on Ukraine’s people but also on its critical agricultural sector, threatening global food supplies. Ukraine, a leading agricultural exporter, has long been known as the “breadbasket of the world.” With Russian forces destroying grain, sabotaging supply chains, and devastating ecosystems, the world has witnessed how malign states can weaponize vital resources, leaving nations vulnerable to hunger and instability.

The Harvesting Stability event will address these pressing issues, analyzing the ongoing damage to Ukraine’s agricultural lands, including the catastrophic Kakhovka Dam explosion, which resulted in flooding, the loss of biodiversity, and long-term soil contamination. The event will also cover Ukraine’s efforts to recover and rebuild, with discussions on demining operations and the investments necessary to secure its future role in global food security.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The event will feature two key panel discussions:

  • Panel I (14:15 – 15:30): Ecological impacts and the immediate challenges of demining Ukraine’s farmlands.
  • Panel II (16:00 – 17:30): Ukraine’s recovery and the necessary investments and infrastructure for restoring Ukraine as a reliable partner in global food security.

Speakers include prominent figures such as Oleh Nivievskyi (Kyiv School of Economics), Roger Fasth (DanChurchAid), Richard MacCormac (DRC), and Maria Repko (Centre for Economic Strategy), among others.
