Ukraine House in Denmark, in partnership with Humanity in Action and the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter, is pleased to announce a special event, “Shared Histories: Ukrainian-Jewish and Danish-Jewish Relations Through Time,” on October 23, 2024. This unique event will explore the interconnected histories of Ukrainian-Jewish and Danish-Jewish communities, offering an in-depth discussion of their experiences, particularly during World War II, and the lessons that can inform today's global challenges.

Event Overview

The evening will begin with a screening of the short documentary Voices in the Void (2021), which poignantly captures Holocaust narratives. Following the screening, a distinguished panel of experts in intercultural relations will lead a discussion on the coexistence and shared histories of these communities in their respective countries, with a focus on the significant historical events that shaped them.

Panelists will examine parallels and contrasts between Ukrainian and Danish Jewish experiences, emphasizing the societal and imperial footprints that led to different wartime outcomes. The discussion will also address how these historical narratives continue to influence contemporary cultural identities and international relations.
