The Danish Energy Agency opens applications for exploration and CO2 storage in the Thorning area
The Danish Energy Agency opens a licensing round for exploration and utilisation of the subsurface for geological storage of CO2 in the Thorning area today. At the same time, the agency invites you to an information meeting about the tender on 3 October 2024.
The minister for climate, energy and utilities announced three new licenses for exploration and utilisation of the subsurface for geological storage of CO2 in February 2023, and another three in June 2024. Following these licenses, the Danish Energy Agency will open a third licensing round for the previously tendered area near Thorning.
The Climate-, Energy- and Utilities Committee of Parliament has been presented with a report describing the area and terms for the licensing round. The round opens today with application deadline on November 11th 2024.

Information meeting about the application process on 3rd of October
The DEA also invites potential applicants to an information meeting regarding the application process. The information meeting will take place Thursday the 3rd of October from 2:30 PM to 3:15 PM, and will be virtual attendance only. The meeting will be in English.
At the meeting, the DEA will give information about the requirements and application process.
An application round for exploration licences nearshore is expected to be announced before the end of 2024.
