Young Copenhagen Chef to Represent Denmark
Chef, Karen Bech will take on some of the world’s most accomplished pastry chefs at the unique Pâté Croute World Championships in Lyon on December 2 this year.
Karen, who works at Copenhagen’s exclusive French ‘Restaurant Maison’, has the distinction of winning the first ever Danish Pâté Croute competition to be held in Denmark and will now represent Denmark at the 15th edition of the Championnat du Monde de Pâté en Croûte.
The young Chef impressed a ‘Who’s Who’ Judging Panel of renowned Danish chefs and gastronomic professionals at the hard-fought competition, held at the French Embassy, organised by champagne winemaker, Yvonne Seier Christensen and renowned French Chef, Francis Cardenau.
Second place went to Julian Elkjær from Restaurant Salon and third place to Jakob Lyngso, Restaurant Bistro Boheme
At the Lyon Grand Finale, Karen will be competing against champions selected via regional finals in North America, South America, Asia and Europe under the leadership of Chef Cardenau.
Pâté-croute is considered to be a difficult dish to master, requiring great technical expertise in making the pastry. It has undergone a revival, due to the popularity of the global competition.
A surprised Karen Bech said that she will be very honoured to represent Denmark.
'I have always loved French cuisine and French restaurants, so I am very Happy to go to Lyon.’
