Americhem, Inc., a globally recognized designer and manufacturer of custom color masterbatch, functional additives, engineered compounds, and performance technologies, announced it will begin sourcing 100% electricity through a local renewable energy program for their World Headquarters location. In an era demanding carbon reduction, Americhem’s transition to renewable energy demonstrates part of an ongoing effort to reduce emissions and drive towards a sustainable future.
The City of Cuyahoga Falls offers the EcoSmart Choice® program, where both residents and businesses can elect to use renewable energy sourced through Green-e® certified renewable energy certificates (RECs). This renewable energy is generated primarily from hydroelectric, wind, and solar power. Americhem aims to set an example in local communities by supporting sustainable programs like these. Cuyahoga Falls Mayor Don Walters stated, "Participating in the EcoSmart Choice® program highlights Americhem's commitment to using renewable energy and reducing their carbon footprint. Americhem continues to be a leader in their industry and the region."
By converting to renewable electricity at Americhem’s World Headquarters in place of fossil-derived sources, they are estimated to avoid approximately 750 MT of CO2 emissions annually1. This is equivalent to the amount of carbon sequestered by 875 acres of U.S. forests in one year2. Lauren Lutikoff, Americhem’s Global Sustainability Leader stated, “At Americhem, we view this initiative as a step forward in our sustainability journey. By embracing renewable energy solutions, we're not only reducing our own carbon footprint, but also actively supporting the growth of Ohio's renewable energy sector. However, our mission doesn’t stop in Ohio. We’re seeking to implement programs like these across all our facilities globally, with work well underway.” Controlled Polymers A/S, an Americhem company located in Ribe, Denmark, is also operating on 100% renewable electricity through harnessed solar and wind power.
Later this year, Americhem also plans to publish their first Sustainability Report, expanding on Americhem’s commitment to sustainability. This report will offer insight into the company’s goals and vision for sustainability, along with performance.
For any questions regarding this initiative, please reach out to Lauren Lutikoff at llutikoff@americhem.com.
