Denmark presents Reconstruction Package III for Ukraine
The Government presents a new reconstruction package to Ukraine to help secure its electricity and heating supply as well as supporting demining efforts.
It is the third reconstruction package under the Ukraine Fund. Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy, Dan Jørgensen, has just returned from Ukraine where he presented the package of more than EUR 20 million.
“Putin’s war against Ukraine is approaching its third year and there is still a big need for support. The Ukrainians can count on Denmark,” says Minister for Development Cooperation and Global Climate Policy, Dan Jørgensen.
Denmark supports the United Nations Development Programme with more than EUR 10 million for gas pistons to strengthen access to electricity and heating in Mykolaiv. The gas pistons are designed to also run on biogas, when this becomes possible. The energy systems of the city of Mykolaiv, which Denmark has taken a special role in the reconstruction of, as well as for the rest of Ukraine has an ambition to be converted to non-bio fuels.
It is estimated that 174.000 km2 are polluted with mines and unexploded ordnance corresponding to approximately four times the area of Denmark. The Danish contribution of more than EUR 10 million strengthens Ukraine’s mine clearing efforts, allowing Ukrainians to return to their homes and fields to again be used for agricultural production.
“The recent targeted attacks against the energy infrastructure in Ukraine means that there is still a need for strengthening the Ukrainian heating and electricity supply. We partake in ensuring that. Also, mines need to be removed so Ukrainians can have safe access to their land and residential areas. It is a critical prerequisite for the return of Ukrainians to the liberated areas,” says Dan Jørgensen.

Nordic statement calling for release of Palestinian clearance revenues and preservation of correspondent banking services between Israel and the West Bank4.7.2024 15:28:38 CEST | News
The Nordic countries are greatly concerned by the withholding of Palestinian clearance revenues which is exacerbating the strenuous fiscal situation of the Palestinian Authority. Like the G7 in its recent Apulia summit Leaders’ Communiqué, the Nordic countries call on Israel to urgently release the withheld clearance revenues as well as to ensure that correspondent banking services between Israeli and Palestinian banks are maintained. Any action weakening the Palestinian Authority or worsening the economic situation in the West Bank must be avoided. We emphasise that maintaining stability in the West Bank, and preparing for one legitimate Palestinian government for the West Bank and Gaza, is critical for regional security and in the interests of Palestinians as well as Israelis. The Nordic countries are committed to supporting the Palestinian Authority and the necessary reforms that it must undertake. The strengthening of legitimate Palestinian institutions is the best way of weakening

Two out of three refugees experience prolonged humanitarian crises lasting several years, often even decades. Meanwhile, refugee camps have traditionally been designed and run as temporary solutions for acute crises. A new partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the LEGO Foundation, Novo Nordisk Foundation, and Grundfos Foundation supports Kenya's ambitions to move away from a temporary approach, benefiting both refugees and local communities.
