Invitation to Commemorative Events and Information Session on Holodomor

Del

We extend our warm invitation to you to participate in two significant events surrounding the commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor, the man-made famine that impacted millions of Ukrainians.

As part of the Ukrainian civil society initiative group's efforts to seek recognition of Holodomor as the genocide of the Ukrainian people, we will be presenting symbolic objects and information letters to members of the Danish Parliament to provide insights into the specific resolutions by Soviet authorities that led to the deliberate killing by starvation of millions of Ukrainians 90 years ago. We cordially invite you to join us on 22 November 2023, at 11:00 a.m in Folketinget, on the second floor opposite Udenrigspolitisk nævn. This meeting will include representatives from the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Denmark, the Association of Ukrainians in Denmark, the Ukraine House in Denmark, and other Ukrainian-Danish NGOs.

On November 25 at 16:00, we invite you to Ukraine House in Denmark for a special event commemorating the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor. The event will feature the lighting of candles in remembrance of the millions who suffered during this dark chapter in Ukrainian history. Dr. Ivan Horodyskyy, a renowned historian and law expert, will join us from Ukraine to discuss the context and impact of this Soviet crime on Ukrainian culture. The event, launched by the Ambassador of Ukraine and attended by Danish dignitaries, representatives of faith-based organizations, and community leaders, will provide an opportunity for reflection through prayer and dialogue.

At the event, we are honoured to serve Ukrainian bread baked by Ukrainian, Polish, and Danish bakers, accompanied by Ukrainian wine. This symbolic gesture highlights the scarcity of bread, a critical element during Holodomor, and reinforces our commitment to remembrance and solidarity.

We hope for your favorable response to our invitation and look forward to your presence at these significant events.

"This concentration camp is Russia in miniature, and it will come to everyone in Europe if Ukraine falls." With this chilling warning, Stanislav Aseyev, a Ukrainian journalist and survivor of 962 days in the Russian Izolyatsia prison, set the tone for a discussion at Ukraine House in Denmark. On January 16th, two extraordinary human rights activists from Ukraine - Stanislav Aseyev and Olha Skrypnyk - shared their experiences of life under Russian aggression. Aseyev, known for his book "The Torture Camp on Paradise Street," described Izolyatsia as a place where brutality defies logic. "It's a 24/7 concentration torture camp," he explained, detailing how prisoners endured constant fear, were forced to wear garbage bags over their heads, remained under glaring lights, and were subjected to electrocution and other forms of torture. "The torture wasn't just to get us to confess - it was to prove their power. Torture continued even after prisoners would sign false confessions, many perpetrat
