Today, Danish Minister for Foreign Affairs Lars Løkke Rasmussen met with his Chinese counterpart, Minister for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi in Beijing. At the meeting, a new Danish-Chinese bilateral work program was launched focusing on climate, energy, environment, and health.

The work program replaces the previous program that expired in 2020. The new work program has a more narrow focus and aims to promote closer cooperation between Danish and Chinese authorities within environment, energy, sustainable food production, health, and green shipping.

Aside from the new work program, a number of issues was on the agenda, including Russia’s unlawful war in Ukraine, regional security as well as bilateral issues.

Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen encouraged the Chinese government to use its influence in Moscow to end the war in Ukraine. Chinese participation in the peace dialogue lead by Ukraine is of high importance.

The Danish Foreign Minister also expressed concern over the human rights situation in China, in particular in Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Tibet.

Minister Løkke Rasmussen moreover appealed to the Chinese government to show restraint in relation to the Taiwan Strait and underlined the importance of maintaining status quo, including avoidance of force, violence and threats. He underlined that Denmark’s One-China policy remained unchanged.
