Invitation to market dialogue regarding Energy Island Bornholm offshore wind farm and other future wind farms

It was decided in the Danish Climate Agreement for Energy and Industry from the 22nd of June 2020, that Denmark should establish two energy islands, which should provide Denmark and its neighboring countries with green electricity. The two energy islands located respectively in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea (Energy Island Bornholm) build upon decades of experience of building offshore windfarms in Denmark. There are ongoing political negotiations about whether the capacity of the offshore windfarm should be increased up to 3 GW and the windfarm will be allowed to be located up to 15 kilometers from the shore. The onshore substation will be located approximately one kilometer south of Nylars, Lodbæk and Aakirkeby.
The offshore windfarm by Energy Island Bornholm will be the first one to be completed in 2030. The capacity can rise up to 3,8 GW, if overplanting will be allowed. The possible capacity from overplanting can, on private initiative, be used by the concessionaire for e.g. Power-to-X (PtX).
Scope of the market dialogue
During the market dialogue the most important topics will be discussed with potential tenderers and other actors in the offshore wind farm industry. The dialogue gives the industry a possibility to affect the framework of the upcoming offshore wind farm by Energy Island Bornholm, which should assure that the submitted tenders are as good as possible.
The market dialogue will address following topics:
- Timetable Energy Island Bornholm OWF
- Preliminary Site Investigations Energy island Bornholm
- Bidding Zone Design for Denmark’s Energy Islands
- The possibility for overplanting and PtX
- Support mechanism
- The onshore substation and grid connection
Participation in the market dialogue
The main event will be held on the 30th of August 2022 at 13-16 and individual meetings between the 1-9th of September 2022. All the meetings will be held in Copenhagen at Carsten Niebuhrs Gade 43, 1577 Copenhagen V. It will also be possible to have the meetings as a virtual meeting.
The material will be released on the DEA’s homepage www.ens.dk/energy-island-bornholm-procurement and sent via TED. Please be aware that changes and add-ons can be sent until two weeks before the event.
Participants in the market dialogue are invited to consider the questions posed but are also welcome to send input related to themes not mentioned in this material. Written comments or questions to the DEA and Energinet should be sent by no later than 12th of September 2022. The Q/A will be made public in a anonymized form.
Please register your participation to energyislands-eob-owf@ens.dk by no later than 18th August 2022.

As the world's largest CO2 emitter, China plays a crucial role in reducing global emissions. The country's massive expansion of solar and wind power is the right way to go, though energy efficiency and market mechanisms must be improved if the goal of carbon neutrality is to be achieved. This is according to a new Chinese report to which Danish experts have contributed significantly and which is actively used in the development of Chinese energy policy.
