Northern European Rhetoric Championships to take place in Luebeck, Germany
The city of Luebeck in Northern Germany will be hosting the Northern European Championships in Public Speaking, conducted by Toastmastmasters International. Toastmasters International is a worldwide nonprofit educational organization that empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.
Speakers in Luebeck will compete in two languages - English and German. In each of these languages, three competitions will be conducted: Prepared speeches of seven minutes length, impromptu speeches of two minutes length, and evaluation speeches, in which competitors share what speakers could do even better.
Up tp 150 Toastmasters members from District 95 which comprises Danmark, Germany, Norway and Sweden will be expected. Apart from the competitions, workshops on rhetorical topics will be conducted in Luebeck, as well as trainings for volunteers in different roles. There is also a cultural programme as well as a gala with award ceremony on Saturday night.
Stefan Gruss, DTM, District Director of District 95, comments on the conference in Luebeck: “We are all very happy to be able to meet in person in Luebeck after two long years of Covid. Rhetorics work best in person, but we did learn a lot about speaking in front of a camera.
Luebeck as a hub between Germany and Scandinavia is the perfect place to conduct our conference and bring humans, Toastmasters members and guests alike, together.
We all look forward to hearing moving and inspiring speeches and honour the best speakers of four countries.”
