LONDON, October 1, 2010 - The Thomson Reuters Foundation recently announced a
new partnership with Vital Voices Global Partnership to help build the capacity
of female journalists in Asian countries and to promote quality journalism in
the region, upholding the principle that integrity-based, independent media is
critical to improving the human condition.
Vital Voices is a Washington-based, non-governmental organization (NGO) that
identifies, trains and empowers emerging women leaders around the globe.

Over the next year, the Foundation will offer specialized media training to
twenty-five female journalists from Asia intended to provide the necessary
skills and values needed to raise their voices and accurately convey
stories through practical reporting exercises.  The training will also consist
of course work focused on writing and reporting news on a range of
issues including disasters, governance, global security and business.

Thomson Reuters was also pleased to be a sponsor of the Vital Voices of Asia
Summit which was held in New Delhi from September 14-17, and brought together
hundreds of policymakers, entrepreneurs, NGOs, and media professionals from the
West and throughout Asia aimed at helping advance the critical role that women
from Asia play in improving the region's social, political and economic growth.

Following the conference, Alyse Nelson, President and CEO of Vital Voices Global
Partnership said, "Vital Voices is thrilled to have the support and partnership
of Thomson Reuters in Asia. We know that women are leading change throughout the
region. But often their voices go unheard and their work is not given the
visibility it deserves. We are thrilled with Thomson Reuters commitment to equip
25 women in Asia with the media and communication skills to bring greater
exposure and support to women's work and successes throughout Asia".

Jui Chakravorty, Reuters Deputy Bureau Chief (Mumbai), who also served as
moderator during the summit, added "I welcomed the opportunity to be in New
Delhi to unveil our partnership with Vital Voices.  Journalism training that is
comprehensive and promotes integrity and freedom from bias in gathering and
disseminating news, is critical to helping establish independent media
outlets; improving professional standards; fostering transparency and
accountability and promoting media organizations committed to independent and
free press. Moreover, empowering these women journalists will create a positive
multiplier effect that will provide support well beyond the participants of the
program".
