Dansk Supermarked Group annual accounts 2016: Solid 2016 result opens up for further digital investments and expansion

Del
In 2016 Dansk Supermarked Group achieved a revenue growth of 0,7 % (1,2 % in local currency, equivalent to DKK 727 million) taking the total revenue to 57,9 billion. In Denmark alone, revenue was lifted by DKK 536 million.

With an EBIT of DKK 2,2 billion Dansk Supermarked Group maintained its position as the financially strongest Danish retailer. As expected, the total profit for the year was negatively impacted by higher depreciations, less profit on sale of non-core properties and the closure of Netto UK. The underlying business delivered solid results in line with previous years.

2016 saw the Group invest heavily in the increased digitization of the company and CEO of Dansk Supermarked Group Per Bank says about 2016:

- Our continued strong performance enables us to invest in future growth through the launch of new, innovative initiatives that improve the everyday lives of our customers. At the same time, we have ensured that we maintain fiercely competitive.

Despite the Danish market being characterized by stagnant consumption, growing price sensitivity and continued intense battle for customers, all business areas contributed to the revenue growth.

- In the coming years, we will strengthen our position in Denmark through improved utilization of digital opportunities and continued investment in our physical stores. In addition, we will increase the pace of expansion in Sweden and Poland, where we continue to see great opportunities for Netto, says Per Bank.

Dansk Supermarked Group won significant non-food and textile market shares in Denmark due to improved turnover in Bilka and føtex and significantly increased online sales through wupti.com, Bilka.dk and føtex.dk. The Group's textile master brand VRS also contributed considerably to this development through a focus on high quality at extremely competitive prices.

New initiatives boost e-commerce

With the upcoming launch of wupti.com as a marketplace, test in Bilka of click-and-collect online groceries as well as last year's introduction of the subscription scheme ØKO+ and other digital launches, Dansk Supermarked Group continues to accelerate the company's e-commerce venture and the fulfilment of the ambition to become the leading online retailer in Denmark.

- Our financial strength makes it possible to further digitalize the company, while we continue to develop our product range at lower prices to the benefit of our customers who get more value for money. This can only be done through the sustained effort of our 50,000 talented colleagues, to whom I owe my sincerest gratitude, says Per Bank, CEO of Dansk Supermarked Group.
