Aarsleff to carry out foundations for Aflandshage Offshore Wind Farm

3.7.2023 12:20:16 CEST | Per Aarsleff Holding A/S | Inside information

Per Aarsleff A/S has been awarded a contract with HOFOR, Greater Copenhagen Utility, on design, production and installation of the foundations for Aflandshage Offshore Wind Farm in the Øresund Strait, ten kilometres south of Amager.

The 26 foundations will be carried out as gravity-based foundations, and the concrete production will take place as prefabrication at Aarsleff's factory in Swinoujscie in Poland. Here, the foundations will be cast directly on barges which will then be transported to Aflandshage where the foundations will be installed on the seabed by means of a specialised vessel.

"Aarsleff was among the pioneers within establishment of offshore wind farms – and we have been a driver of development over the past 20 years. We see a great potential for wind farms which are carried out with gravity-based foundations, and we are pleased to contribute with solutions with more green energy," says Jesper Kristian Jacobsen, CEO of Aarsleff.

The foundations will have a height of between 17 and 25 metres and a weight of up to approx. 4,000 tonnes. Each foundation will carry a wind turbine of a total height of 220 metres.

Design and planning will begin now, while the concrete production will begin mid-2024. The first offshore work, which is dredging and establishment of stone bed, will also be carried out mid-2024, and the installation of the foundations will take place in the first half of 2025. The work must be completed in the autumn of 2025.

“At HOFOR, we are looking forward to starting up the first visible work at Aflandshage Offshore Wind Farm. The Wind Farm will have a total capacity of 300MW and can produce enough energy to power 300,000 Danish households in the Øresund region. It is an important step for the green transition – and so are the foundations. We have chosen these foundations as they contribute to strengthening the marine environment, e.g. by providing more breeding grounds for fish,” says Henrik Plougmann Olsen, CEO of HOFOR, who expects that the wind turbines will be fully operational in 2026.

The client does not want to disclose the contract value, and the contract has the usual standstill period of 10 days.

The contract does not affect Aarsleff's earnings expectations for the financial year 2022/23.
